After a long journey we have arrived safely in Vietnam, tired but excited.
I am not sure whether the post went through that we were at the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia airport because my iPhone was acting up, but will try and re-post it with the picture.
Judy, Tachy and I met up at the London Heathrow Terminal, having got up before 5AM! We set out on the 13 hour 11,620 Kilometer flight on Malaysia Airlines to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Then after a brief stop-over, we flew 3:03 hours 2,341 Kilometer flight to Hanoi, Vietnam. Thus we were in the air for over 16 hours flying 13,961 kilometers or 8,675 miles. The time difference to Kuala Lumpur was +8 hours from The UK (+13 from eastern USA / Canada), however Hanoi, which is almost due North and slightly East is only +7 hours from the UK (+12 from Eastern USA / Canada).
The group seems to consist of 21 people all in their 60’s and 70’s and the tour guide Zoe Ireland who is with Travel-sphere tour company and will be with us all the way through Cambodia and back to the UK. Of the 21, only 3 (Judy & 2 others) will be doing just the Vietnam portion and not the Cambodia part. We have now picked up a local guide, who will be with us all the way through the Vietnam portion. The local currency “Dong” is 21,000 to US$1.00 or 32,000 to £1.00.
Total population of Vietnam according to the guide is 95million and Hanoi. Has a population of 8 million. We will be spending three nights at this Sunway Hotel in Hanoi before going South.
We are now having a bit of a rest before going out as a group to a local Vietnamese Restaurant, which should be fun. Tomorrow is the City Tour.
