October 1, 2015 – Sicily Pictures – Roman Villa at the foot of Mt. Mangone near Piazza Armerina town

Initial construction was 293-305 AD when the Augustus and Caesers were in power and added to though the Norman Occupation of Sicily until it was covered by a mudslide in the 12th Century. It was uncovered in the 1930’s and about 1/3 has now been excavated. The existing 3,500 Sq Meters of mosaics in geometric patterns (for walkways and servants quarters) and human / animal patterns are stunning.
