Siracusa lies at the south Eastern part of the triangular shaped island of Sicily. It was founded by the Greeks (Corinthians) in 733BC where they settled in the section of the town called Ortigia between the large and small ports. In 415BC the Athdnians failed to conquer the city after a 2 year siege. This was Archimedes home town.
