Saturday January 26, 2019 – Singapore
After a leisurely breakfast and packing we were transferred to the Quay where the ship that is to be our home for the next couple of weeks – the Panamanian registered MV Aegean Odyssey awaited our boarding. Judy took a good tour to the Marina Bay Gardens and then boarded the ship. We all met for lunch on the outside deck aft overlooking the bay with it’s many ships waiting to load and unload their cargoes.
The ship itself is small, but well appointed. 8 decks, we are on 745 and Judy on 818. The 6th deck is where there is a large bar/ lounge (Charleston) where there is music in the evening, The Ambassador lounge where the lectures and entertainment shows take place as well as a library, gym / Spa, Cafe, outside swimming pool and a formal (Marco Polo) Dining Room. Food consumption per week is 200Kg Steaks, 950 bottles of wine, 1,600 bread rolls, 2,000 jars of Jam and 700 liters of milk.
There is a total capacity of 350 guests, but on his cruise there are 279 people with an average age of 72 and coming from – UK 157; USA 44; Canada 34; Australia 29; and then several other nations representing a handful – New Zealand 5; Ireland 3; Italy 2; Slovenia 2 and one from Greece, Kenya and Most important 1 from Mexico (Anne).
The cruise director Alison and 4 staff all introduced themselves with impressive credentials all having Ancient History Degrees form major universities in England, at the first formal event after the lifeboat drill. This was really a talk informing us all about the ship and the first port where we arrive in the morning in Malaysia.
We then adjourned to the bar for a drink and dinner and early to bed.
