2019-06-22 – Hamilton, Bermuda

Saturday June 22, 2019 – Travel to Bermuda – It was necessary to travel to Bermuda for about 4 hours of business, but that took 5 days – either very slow or other more enjoyable reasons, like a few days off!!!!

The 1 3/4 short flight from JFK to Bermuda was uneventful. We cleared the authorities and took a taxi ($45.00) to the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel, located centrally on the seashore and in easily walking distance to the center of Hamilton town.

We checked into the resort – that has a beach, 2 swimming pools (one just for adults and the other for families), spa, shops, various eating areas etc. A very nice, albeit very expensive hotel.

We ventured out to lunch, going to one of the restaurants the taxi driver had recommended, but the “Red Carpet” was closed for lunch. We returned there for dinner. We ended up at “The Hog Penny” on Burnaby Street between Front & Reid streets, an old pub that says it was the inspiration for the TV series “Cheers”.

After a wander around the town, we retired to the hotel for a siesta and quiet time, before heading back to the “Red Carpet” Restaurant for a delicious dinner. The black awning entrance to The Armory Building appears to be a small strip mall at 37 Reid street Hamilton HM12 (Phone 441-292-6195), however it is an excellent upscale restaurant for locals. The German owner, came to ask – you are not locals, how did you find us? We explained the Taxi connection and enjoyed a superb meal including the local rock-fish specialty with bananas.
