Sunday 25th August, 2019 – Disembark QM2 in Southampton, UK, to Wokingham then To Ebsfleet.
A busy day, but all worked out well in the end. We awoke early, wished the Cliffords a happy 40th wedding anniversary, breakfasted and were out of our cabin by 7:45 AM. The Cliffords went to the Royal Court Theatre to get a coach to St. Pancreas and from there the Euro-star to Paris where they met up with some of their children for dinner on the Seine.
We stopped briefly at the Veranda Restaurant and were some of the first to de-board. We found our luggage and placed the (green tag) bags in the cage to be stored by Cunard and put onto the Queen Elizabeth in 10 days time. Both the green transfer as well as the cream de-boarding labels were required (for future reference). Roddy was there as we cleared customs to take the painting we brought over and greatly helped us out. We loaded our luggage into his car and went to the Europecar offices in Southampton near the Quays. For future reference – That office is Closed on Sundays. We did find that Hertz was open, but there were so many people waiting we were not sure if we could get a car. So after calling Europecar they indicated that there is a possibility of getting a car at the Southampton airport in about 2 hours. We decided to go and Roddy kindly took us to the Airport where we were able to get a car right away, albeit at a high price!
We went home to Wokingham, unpacked what had to stay, including a new Bavarian crockery set we had bought in the US, did some laundry, church and then had a nice lunch with Alex & Courtney at Lether’n bottle.
We then set off to Ebbsfleet where we eventually found the Marston Silver Springs Hotel (not on the Sat Nav)!! We then found that Europecar had closed their offices at the train station so had to drive 15 miles to Dartford to hand in the car (Europecar here was also closed on Sunday’s) so left the keys, had a nice dinner at the Harvester Pub and got a taxi back to the hotel.
