2019-09-15 & 16 – At Sea to Greenock (Glasgow) Scotland

Sunday September 15th, 2019 – At Sea

After 4 tiring days on land we slept in a bit but made the 11 AM Lecture by Sandra Howard (Lord Howard’s wife) who spoke on her career as a model for Vogue, Lux Soap then spending some months with Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack developing material for her first book. She apparently was married to a famous musician before leaving him to marry Lord Howard. She now is novelist with 6 books to her credit. The latest being “The Consequence of Love”

The second lecture was by Tristam Elmhirst on DNA and it’s use in Forensic science.

We tried a new card game in the afternoon that we had purchased in Iceland regarding the Norse pagan deities, but after trying 2 of the 6 games that can be played with the cards decided we either did not understand the game or found it rather uninteresting.

We changed into our formal ware for dinner only to find that the dress for the evening was more informal, so after dinner we changed back and attended the evening entertainment – The Knights male trio singing songs created by UK Lords, Danes and Knights. Charlie Chaplain, Julie Andrews, Tom Jones, Elton John, Paul McCartney etc. A great concept, but poorly executed with mediocre voices and poor Choreography. One of the three was out of synch with the others and even dressed differently so probably a last minute stand in.

Monday September 16th, 2019 – At Sea

The day, as usual was filled with very interesting lectures.

Tristan Elmhirst “Digging for the Truth” Forensic Archaeology as solving the Dennis Neilson case and a double murder in Rutland UK.

Michael Howard – My Life and Times – His life in politics with Margaret Thatcher and as ambassador to USA.

Robert Key “The Emerald Isle and it’s place in History”. The history of Ireland.

Matthew White – “Top Hat – From Screen to Stage”. In 2011 he adapted the iconic Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers into a West End Musical. An interesting discussion followed tomorrow evening with a full production.
