Saturday January 11, 2020 – A new adventure begins! Anne and Roger set out from Vermont in a rented car and pointed it South getting to New York, from there to Florida for our trip through the Carribean and all around South America. We return by car to Vermont via Austin TX, Alabama and Tennessee after a couple of months.
Sunday January 12, 2020 – We continued on South and had a lovely visit overnight in Washington DC with Jeff and Michelle Bannister and Michelle’s son – Lori – who was to leave the following day for a semester of architecture study in Florence Italy. A nice central Hyatt Regency Hotel on New Jersey Avenue near the Capital was our hotel and we were able to eat outside at a nice Mediterranean / Greek restaurant – Zaytinya (701 9th Street NW, Washington DC 20001 – +1 (202) 638-0800 – zaytinya.com.

Monday January 13, 2020 – We wandered around DC, leaving about 11AM and drove, stopping for lunch at a Cracker Barrel for a nice lunch / dinner, arriving at the charming town of Asheville where we stayed at the Vanderbilt’s home, now the Village Hotel at Biltmore Estate. However, it was after 10 pm when we arrived, and left soon after breakfast so were not able to enjoy the facilities. There was a fabulous winery (we sampled a bottle) and lots more to see. A must to return with more time.
Tuesday January 14, 2020 – We departed Asheville by 9am and drove to Greensboro Georgia where we stayed and visited old friends from our days in Caracas (1981-1984) – Josie and Michael Dingee. Lots of fun catching up on old times. Gorgeous 6 bedroom house on the lake in the Reynold’s plantation, with lunch at the Country Club next to of one of the 8 golf courses in the Estate. Josie fixed a delicious dinner at home and lots of chit chatting and Martinis until late.
Wednesday January 15, 2020 – We departed soon after breakfast and set off on our way to Orlando area where we plan to see Epcot and another Disney park over the next couple of days, leaving Saturday. Today we stopped for lunch at a Chili’s along the way. We got to the Sheraton at Buena Vista Lake in time for a nice dinner at Patron, a Mexican Restsurant a few minutes walk from the hotel.
