2020-01-17 – Disney Animal Kingdom

Friday January 17, 2020 – Disney Animal Kingdom – This is another of the 4 Disney parks in the area. The other two are Universal Movie Studio and The Magic Kingdom (Disney world). The Animal Kingdom is divided into Asia, Africa and USA Dinosaurs, The central Discovery Island and the fanciful Pandora.

On Discovery, the central tree with it’s tribute to insects is a fun way to be educated about the billions of insects that are all around us. The walking tour in the Asia section and the Safari bus tour of the African area, bring you up close and personal with the animals that roam reasonably wild. In the Africa section, two hippos decided to cross right in front of the open bus and took their time about it. The bus stopped out of respect of being in their habitat. A “backstage” tour is available and takes you even closer to the animals. Next time.

The bird show (UP!) was fun and has real exotic birds flying around the audience with good explanations. The rapids ride was under refurbishment and the Everest Roller-Coaster was to be missed as this type of ride is not for us.

In the US Dinosaur area, the finding Nemo show was cute and the Dinosaur ride had a long wait so missed.

The longest wait all day – consistently over 2 hours – was the Winged encounter and also the river journey. The latter they had to close to the public as the wait was so long. We waited for neither.

We had a quick bite to eat in the Dinosaur area as we had a big dinner at Paddlefish seafood Restaurant in Disney Springs. A definite highlight recommended by the Clifford’s, with Bloody Mary’s, guacamole with lobster and lobster & crab bake.
