Monday March 2, 2020 – At Sea en route to Arica
Fuerte Amador, Panama was the port lecture. This was followed by Richard Wainio gave an interesting talk about the early history of the Panama and the Canal. This one (of 6) focused on a way that Pizarro tried to get silver and Gold from Ecuador and Peru back to Spain. See the Panama Canal entry for all the details from the various talks and visit.
Neil Laughton, Gave the first of a series of talks about his experiences as an adventurer and his various Guinness Book of Record entries. While a poor student, he made a career in the military and then an adventurer. He has held the world’s highest formal dinner party in the world half way up Mt. Everest, runs a polo club that uses Penny farthing bicycles in lieu of horses, has climbed all the highest peaks in each of the 7 Continents, Walked with a group of underprivileged children across the Sahara desert, attempted (and failed) to row an inflatable between Alaska and Russia in Winter and took the world’s highest Para-motor flight over Everest amongst others. A fascinating, but somewhat crazy chap!!
The evening show “Hollywood Rocks” by the Cunard troupe was, as usual filled with costume changes and high energy.
