2023-01-26 – Safaga to Salalah, Oman – Day 23

Thursday January 26, 2023

Another day at sea in the Pirate Area in the Gulf of Aden off Yemen and Somalia as we steam towards Oman. Jonathan Clough, the very good astronomy expert talked about the sun, how it is structured and how the earth will eventually be destroyed either by the sun’s fission hydrogen to helium process ending; a major collision by an asteroid, like the dinosaur destruction; or perhaps we destroy the planet on our own with no need from any external source!!! The second lecture was the outstanding lecturer and Middle East expert – Stuart Laing talking about the Muslim Religion, the life and times of Mohamed and the division of his sons creating the Sunni and Shia followers.

The afternoon was a time to play Mahjong and catch up on posting the blog as it was somewhat backlogged.

The evening performance was a combination of the excellent flutist Suzanne Godfrey and the Royal Court Singers and Dancers doing a tribute to Sting.

We moved our clocks again another hour ahead so we are now 9 hours ahead of New York.

Water cannons are ready for action by potential pirates.

Below, stay watch 24 hours a day with a machine that emits ear piercing noise if any one approaches.
