2023-02-05 – Muscat to Penang, Malaysia – Day 33

Sunday February 05, 2023

Another exciting day at sea, starting with Church services with the New Captain and a Roman Catholic Monseigneur from Manchester New Hampshire who knows Arlington Vermont well and the Carthusian Monastery . He will be on for 6 weeks – until Sydney. This was followed by a fascinating talk by the BBC Correspondent that has been covering the Middle East for many years and followed and interviewed Osama Bin Laden. She recounted many harrowing tales searching for him up in the Kush mountains and in the tribal areas of Pakistan, interviewing a series of “undesirables” and doing a number of programs on Panorama in England. She will be giving another talk and an interview so it should be fascinating.

In the afternoon, a bit of a change. The theatre company Box Tale Soup based in England did an interesting semi puppet, semi 3 actors taking different parts, of Gulliver’s Travels. They were very creative and used all props that they have in 2 trunks, which themselves are used as props. Boxtalesoup.co.uk Speaking to them, there is a possibility that we might try and take them to New York at some point.

The World Party given by the Captain for those of us doing the full 4-month voyage, but this time it was on an upper deck in the open air just before sunset. It was fabulous. The caviar and champagne flowed as well as lots of finger foods and ice sculptures of – the Burj Khalifa, the Sphinx and 2 other regional landmarks.

We closed out the evening attending the Philip Hitchcock Magician show, which was entertaining, but not spectacular. He did try hard to engage the audience, but it only partially worked.

Overnight as we travel East to India and beyond we advanced our clocks by 1 hour and will continue to do so for 4 days consecutively, so we only get 23 hours a day and the hour we miss is 1 hour less of sleep!!!
