2023-03-26 – Perth Australia to Port Louis, Mauritius – Day 82

Sunday March 26, 2023

The Church Service was performed by the Captain and he chose the longest hymns and longest readings, but was well attended and a very nice way to start Sunday. We did attend the various lectures, although Anne preferred to catch up on stuff in the library. While the first lecture was by Kate Schroeder, was missed as it was at the same time as the Church, it was interesting to hear what she had to say on the recorded TV time. Of interest was that 300,000 years ago was the origin of Homo Sapiens, however in Australia civilization started 50,000 to 65,000 years ago based on archaeological evidence in the Northern Territory. By way of comparison 5,400 years ago Stonehenge was built and is one of the early civilizations of Europe. The Pyramids of Egypt are of a similar 5-6K years ago, so human beings travelled over the land bridge from Africa to India and then to Australia which was close to the other land mass.

The first lecture I attended in person was the Australian Comedian, Producer and Director of the TV Comedy shows – Ian McFadyen, talking about the story of comedy over the years. Many of the jokes that were done in a few decades ago, making fun of certain groups, are no longer politically correct so he spoke of how things have changed over time.

The Futurist, Robin Craig spoke in a somewhat confused way of Artificial Intelligence and “Thinking Machines”. I must admit that I am not sure of where he was going and what was his message, so prefer not to go into any more detail. Many people walked out during his lecture, one would assume for the same reasons so that by the end there were very few people left.

We decided to have lunch at the Verandah restaurant as we, as “Diamond” members are entitled to a free lunch per segment. Always a very enjoyable experience. We then saw Ruth Clamp, as we had arranged to meet with her to discuss tours. This evening we dressed formally for dinner as it was the Gala Masquerade Ball evening. The show was a combination of the magician, Circus performer – Nathanial Rankin and the Sopranos – Indigo May. A really fabulous sining and magical experience.
