Another day at sea passing Madagascar and another couple of interesting lectures as well as a Lunch & Learn. The day started with Dave Mallinder playing to a completely full Illuminations crowd, told the story of the Beatles from where they were born, grew up and how they came together through their success in Germany then England and finally “conquering” the USA starting with the now famous appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. We missed the Futurist show and unfortunately had to miss the African wildlife expert talking about the hippopotamus as we had signed up for the Lunch & Learn at the Verandah. This time it was French wines from Burgundy that were the feature. Specifically:-
Caesar salad
- Macon Villages, Domaine de La lobeline and Sounit Montagny 1er Cru Les Coeres
Sea scallops with lobster essence
- Olivier Tricon Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons and Meursault, Domaine Faiveley, Côte de Beaune
Lamb cutlets with spinach, shallots and mashed potatoes
- Chorey-Les-Beaune, Domaine Maillard, Côte de Beaune and Gevrey-Chamberlin, Domaine Tortochot, Côte de Nuits
French cheeses with apple jelly
The afternoon saw a long “siesta” to deal with the wine, we had dinner and the show was one of the best we have seen. Foggy Flax, a man from Liverpool plays the guitar, sings and in between, which ended up being the predominant part of the show, he was an extremely funny comedian. We all enjoyed him greatly.
