2024-06-21 – La Coruña, Spain – Day 050

Friday June 21, 2024 – La Coruña, Spain

As this was the third time we have been to La Coruña this trip, we opted to take the long marine promenade (red dots on the map provided) walk following the natural contours of the land toward the Saint Anton fort, then over to the other side which is mostly local residential and finally back through the center of town to the main square for Tapas lunch and after a stop at a crepe shop, back to the ship. We did take a detour as we wandered through the old part of town to one of the churches, where Mass had just started, so we stayed for the duration. A simple church, but one we had visited before. We continued our walk past the Oceanographic Institute and along the “Paseo Marítimo” with it’s red wrought iron street lights, each of which had a large and a smaller oval about eye level with a painting of different items. Reaching the roundabout that takes you either to the Polígono de Durmiderias (we referred to as “Stonehenge” given the upright semi circle of stones), or to the Hercules Tower and Aquarium, we decided to return through the local streets past the Music Conservancy, a very modern church “St Thomas the Apostle “ eventually reaching the main plaza Maria Pita with it’s gorgeous town hall, where we stopped for Tapas and beer at 1906 restaurant. Delicious food and the most reasonable prices we have found on this trip. We then returned to the main Marina Drive, where the Marina and Cruise ships dock and found a place for coffee and desert crepes – Crêperie Petite Bretagne which were delicious. So after our 10 Kilometers walk, we got back onto the ship, attended dinner, played a little Blackjack and watched the very amusing John Evans comedian.
