Wednesday February 05, 2025 – At Sea – San Francisco, CA USA to Hawaii, USA
The first lecture was – Dr. Gary Fuller (gfuller@hawaii.edu) – Captain Cook arrives in Hawaii and was considered a God due to his superior technology. However he then went back out to sea and his ship was buffeted by a storm so had to go back to make repairs. When the locals saw his return with ship in tatters he was considered not as important a God as they thought so he was murdered there.
The second lecture was – Charles Barclays – Demystifying the Night Sky. He was very good in explaining in very simple terms different aspects of the sky and promises to have very interesting talks during his series of lectures.
The third lecture was – Orina Holland – Into the mind of a Psychopath Killer. She explained the REID Technique – The first premise is the obtaining of the confession by the suspect. This is done by interrogation whereby the first phase is to create a strong rapport with the subject. The second is to reduce the moral ground (it was an accident etc) and finally the third part is to confront the suspect with the evidence and the discrepancies between the story the suspect told and the evidence presented. Also she went into a case about a psychotic killer and the way the case developed and was solved. This is the first of a series of murders she will talk about.
Showtime – Barrie Kealoha – (kanaka Maoli = Native Hawaiian) Singer and storyteller. She was born on the mainland of Hawaiian ancestry and eventually moved from Manhattan NY back to Oahu where she now lives. She performed various songs in the Hawaiian language as well as English and Spanish. A terrific voice but her banter between songs was somewhat self-serving and turned many off who walked out. Her voice though was terrific.
