Tuesday February 11, 2025 – At Sea between Hawaii, USA and Apia, Samoa
The first of several days at sea as we continue to sail across the North Pacific Ocean towards our next stop in Apia, Samoa, another place we have not been to before.
The first lecture was Charles Barclays – Stories in the Stars in which he described the various areas of the sky which is a better way of seeing the sky than the constellations. He described how to interpret the various areas through history and how the differences are interpreted in the Northern and Southern hemisphere.

Next Omnia Holland – Into the Mind of a Seasoned Psychopath – A continuation in her series with another case of the psychotic behaviors of a young man who after spending 6 years in jail for robbing a bank, maintained that it was someone else’s fault that he was forced to rob the bank. This caused him to arbitrarily go to a house in an affluent neighborhood in Florida and knocking on the door, grabbed the woman and after wrapping her into a blanket and putting her into her car, drove her off and found a place to stab her to death in the back and just for good measure, in case she wasn’t properly dead, he stabbed her in the heart various times “So the Bitch could not testify against him” (as he stated in court). He then changed his clothes and went for a Pizza. Knowing the system, he was apprehended and held for questioning, but as soon as the detectives arrived from their 3 hour drive from South Florida where the murder was committed to where he was being held, they started the questioning. He asked if he was under arrest and upon his being told “Yes”, he immediately invoked his right to having a lawyer represent him, the total interview lasted 4 minutes. Eventually he was found guilty and asked for the death penalty, but was given life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Next came Paul Kearney – The Beginning of Rock and Roll – 1950’s – This is the first of a series of lectures about the various eras of Rock and Roll. He starts off with an amusing video and then plays videos of the various artists from the era under discussion, playing their most famous songs. Today he spoke of The Everly Brothers, Bobby Darin, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Paul Anka.

Next came Tamara Lampard – Myths of Beginings – the stories that people in the various areas of Polynesia and the stories / oral tradition of how each interpret the ever daunting question of early humans – Where did we come from, What was our Origin, Why are we here? While this appeared to be very interesting, we found that we rapidly became distracted so left before the end to go to lunch.
The evening Showtime – Cameo Ráscale – an Australian Couple from near Perth with acrobatics, juggling and incredibly entertaining duo. Some truly amazing tricks and ending in a full house standing ovation. A brilliant show.
