2023-01-20 – Heraklion, Crete to Suez Canal – Day 17

Friday January 20, 2023

A bit of a lazy morning as there was no 10AM lecture, so we dawdled after breakfast and then walked around the deck before getting to the 11:15fascinating lecture by Viviana Rowen the Egyptologist who spoke about Tombs Temples and Hieroglyphs, giving us a good insight as to what to expect when we visit Luxor, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings after crossing the Suez Canal on Sunday.

We are making slow progress towards Port Said in Egypt where we will anchor in the area to the north of the Suez Canal awaiting our turn to transit the canal. In the afternoon we enjoyed an Ice sculpturing demonstration where 400 lbs of ice was slowly chipped away to form a bird on a perch all within about half an hour.

The evening performance was once again Symphony which is always enjoyable although it is now the second time in just over two weeks on board that we have seen the show. The Cunard singers (2 couples) together with all the musicians aboard and the backdrop of 60 people in the Albert Hall in London performing a variety of numbers giving you the feeling of being in a large concert hall.
