Monday February 03, 2025 – San Francisco, CA USA
We passed under the Golden Gate Bridge at 4 AM entering the San Francisco Bay Area for our 2 day stop here. The day started off nicely but as the day wore on, by the evening the rain was coming down and we got drenched. The next day the rain continued to come down very heavily. The ship pulled aside Starboard to Quay on Pier 27, which is very convenient. The four of us were able to get through Customs & Immigration very quickly and by 9-ish we were outside. We had arranged to spend the day with Family – Anne’s sister Catita, who lives in Spain, was here visiting her daughter Ana Patricia and her five children, the last daughter – Almudena, was born just 1 month ago on Christmas Day. Catita picked us up about 11 AM and drove us to Silicone Valley, where the Morales family lives. Ana Patricia and little Isabel, were there to greet us along with the baby. Around lunch time Ana Patricia’s husband Jorge arrived as he had been preparing lunch – smoked brisket, in his smoker for over 24 hours. It was superb and we all enjoyed not only a delicious lunch, but learned a great deal more about how Brisket is prepared Texas Style. Soon after lunch the three other children – Ana Lucia, Jorge and Pia, were picked up from school by Catita, Anne and Diana and we greatly enjoyed spending time with all of them, including a dance show that two daughters put on for us in the living room. Jorge (father) was very kind and drove us back to the ship. A really fun day.

We decided to go for a walk along the water’s edge and by the time we got to pier 39-41, we were at Fisherman’s Wharf. We saw a Crab restaurant overlooking the bay (Franciscan Crab Restaurant Pier 43 1/2, San Francisco, CA 94133 – +1-415-362-7733 franciscanrestaurant.com – Open 12 – 8 daily)) – , just as it started to rain, so went in and enjoyed delicious Mojitos and crab. We had hoped that by the end of dinner we would have a dry walk back to the ship!! Unfortunately, the rain just got harder so by the time we had walked back 1/2 hour, we were soaked and needed a warm drink as it was cold outside.
